The chairman of the African Unity (AU), President Robert Mugabe says Africa must establish its own International Criminal Court (ICC), which would be saddled with the responsibility of persecuting leaders of western countries who have committed crimes on the continent.
91 years old Mugabe said it was time African states seek justice by setting up a criminal court that will try war and human crimes committed by Western countries especially during the colonial era.
In a press statement, Mugabe was quoted to have said “they committed crimes, colonial crime galore – the slaughter of our people and also the imprisonment… I have a case, why was I imprisoned for 11 years? We forgave them, but perhaps we have not done ourselves justice… You set up ICC, we set up ICC to try Europeans, to try Mr Bush and Mr Blair.
