Lassa fever: When we thought it was over

A 10 year old boy has reportedly being killed by the dreadful Lassa fever in ebonyin state.
The guardians of the boy were blamed for failure to report the case to a health personnel’s early enough.
This is the second death from this disease recorded so far in the state.

The anouncement was made by the Ebonyi state commiaioner of health Dr Daniel Umezurike, on Monday Febuary 29 in Abakaliki
It was said that the deceased died at weekend after being discharged from the federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

The deceased who was said to be a pupil of one of the primary schools in Igbeagu, Izzi Local Government Area, went to visit his parents who were based in Abuja recently. He was however not taken to the hospital immediately he fell sick and that worsened his case.

He however was said to have responded to treatment when brought to the hospital, but he unfortunately died the weekend after his discharge
The commisioner for health then revealed that the ministry had embarked on surveillance and contact-tracing of close associates to curtail its spread..
The first victim to die of the diseases in Ebonyi State was a student of the Ebonyi state University,Abakaliki,who died a month earlier.

Meanwhile, another case has been reported in Kaduna with the virus taking the lives of an NYSC doctor, nurse and pregnant woman.
